Etu began paintings and sculptures in the 1980’s while he was working as an art teacher at a secondary school in Gunjur and at St. Joseph Girls High School in Banjul. In 1990 he founded together with other local artists the gallery “African Art Collection Centre/The Gambia” in Bakau. Apart from painting he also designed sculpture furniture and printed T-Shirts. Therefore he founded a silk screen printing company in 1994. During this period he already participated in various exhibitions in the Gambia and Senegal. Between 1996 and 2000 he studied art at the art christetlljke academe in Kampen, Netherlands . During this time his works were not only presented in the Netherlands but also in Sweden and the UK. He returned to the Gambia in 2001 and started working for the Gambian television, hosting an art program for children. He also started working again as an art teacher at the French International School and gave lectures on artistic traditions at the University of the Gambia. In 2003 he founded the Tunbung Art Village which is now his working and living place. Beside permanent exhibitions in the Gambia and Sierra Leone, china, Sweden, his paintings and sculptures are presented in over 20 national exhibitions and dozen international countries over the past 25 years.
